At my current gig we need to expand the team. We're looking for good all-round Python developers, who are comfortable with learning new technologies. Send your resume and a few words about you at orestis@orestis.gr.
Why apply?
- You will have the chance to work on an exciting project, based on an existing installation.
- You will be able to see actual people using the software you write in real time.
- You will be a member of a relaxed and fun team.
- You will be working for a company that loves open source and prefers funding open-source projects instead of buying proprietary tools (though practicality beats purity).
- You will be working for a company that scores at least 10/12 on the Joel test.
There are two positions we want to fill:
Lots of experience
We are developing user-facing applications that run 24/7/365 and we need someone who is at ease with complex systems, network communications, robustness and with attention to detail. Experience with Twisted will be considered a bonus.
Less experience
We also want someone who is not necessarily very experienced but who is smart and wants to learn as he goes along, as part of the team. Familiarity with Python is required, and experience with sys-admin stuff will be considered a bonus.
Other requirements
- Access to a Mac for development. We use Cocoa/PyObjC a lot, and you should either be familiar with it, or be able to easily learn.
- Ability to work from home. This is a globally distributed team.
- Testing mindset. We strive to do Test Driven Development, although with practicality in mind.
- Results oriented. Architect astronauts need not apply - we have a client to satisfy.
- Friendly and communicative. Most of our communication is via chat, with the occasional Skype call.
- Can learn fast. We want to use the best tool for the job, so we continuously evaluate and use new technologies.
This is going to be a full-time contracting job, lasting at least until February. If the conditions are right, it may evolve to something more long-term.
Give it a go!
If all this sounds interesting, send your resume and a few words about you at orestis@orestis.gr. I promise to reply to all candidates. If the team likes you, we'll have a Skype chat, where you would be requested to write some code snippets.

Hi! I just want to point out how nice it is to find out that people from Greece have the oportunity to participate in more interesting things than what this country currently is able to offer (i.e. the millionth customer DB app written in VB).
While I don't live in Athens, I've signed up to the mailing list as well. Its nice to see some evolution at last ..
Cheers
